St. Chinian

The village that gave its name to the appellation, was born from two monasteries founded by the Benedictines in 826. He made his fortune under the Old Regime with drapers and tanners. After the Revolution, and the decline of these activities, the vineyard regained its rights. Today, the abbey, now a town hall, and the abbey converted into an exhibition and performance hall, remain from this past.
The parish church has well-restored 18th century organs. Overlooking the village, the Moulin du Rocher, a windmill recently restored, after more than 150 years of inactivity, regularly hosts entertainment and concerts. From above, the visitor has a perfect panoramic view, allowing a reading of the landscape incorporating shale and clay-limestone. To the east, towards Assignan, a small road leads to the Chapel of Our Lady of Nazareth. From here we discover a beautiful view of the Saint-Chinianais.
